About our school

Nuriootpa Primary school is a flourishing school in the charming town of Nuriootpa, nestled in the beautiful Barossa Valley.

Originally designed as an open-plan learning space, recent upgrades have transformed the school into a vibrant environment with warm and welcoming classrooms, breakout rooms, outdoor learning areas, and STEM spaces. The beautiful, original thatched ceiling in the library, which sits at the heart of the school, has been preserved. The mezzanine, now home to our vintage parade scarecrows and teacher art pieces – of varying degrees of skill! adds to the school’s unique character. Outside, new playgrounds, murals, garden spaces, and the latest addition – new football goals – offer plenty of opportunities for students to relax and play.

The school prides itself on providing high-quality, targeted learning for all students within an innovative and supportive environment. Experienced teachers, who are passionate about student success, uphold high expectations. The school is continuously striving for improvement, fostering an environment where staff and students are supported to be their best selves.

Focusing on living our core values, the school prepares students for future success in all areas of life. We also encourage families and the wider community to engage with the many events the school offers. A comprehensive camp and excursions program, active SAPSASA involvement, a school choir and instrumental music program, along with numerous in-school presentations, provide a wide variety of learning experiences. This ensures that there is never a dull moment at Nuriootpa Primary School!

Our vision

Nuriootpa Primary School aligns itself with the Department for Education purpose statement which states:

“Educators and staff work in partnership with families and communities to nurture, develop
and empower all South Australian children and young people with the knowledge, skills and
capabilities they need to become fulfilled individuals, active, compassionate citizens and
lifelong learners.”

Our Values and Expectations

The school has three expectations that underpin learning and behaviour.
They are:

#1 Come to class prepared to learn – understand and appreciate your purpose in coming to school.

#2 Everyone has the right to learn – understand and appreciate that your behaviour impacts others.

#3 Everyone has the right to feel and be safe – understand and appreciate that we make our own choices and need to ‘own’ them.

The school also takes an approach to values, ensuring that staff and students alike develop a deep understanding of what values are – how our own values, and those of others, can influence how we think and behave. We work with our students so that they come to know what their personal values are, when they are ‘living into’ their values and when they have perhaps let themselves down by forgetting their values or when they need to think about how best to live as a person with strong values.
